If you are new to the forum, WELCOME! You are probably wondering, "Who the heck are these True North fellas, and what are they all about?" You may have come across our link on other forums, or been recommended by one of our members.
HISTORY
The True North Gas Pressure Appliance Collectors, or True North GPAC (Pronounced True North 'Gee-Pack') for short, evolved in 2010 over a period of several months and involving several individuals. Co-founder Agostino Delcoro (adelcoro) summed it up perfectly when asked recently about the team effort:
"Absolutely! The greatest guys in the world starting with Steve Cullins with all his hard work and sweat hosting world-class gatherings!"
Co-founder Steve Cullins (log lounge) went to a gathering of one of our companion groups, the East Coast Coleman Collectors Club (ECCCC). He had a wonderful time, and in talking to ECCCC founding member Matt Michalik (kilroyjc), he had a vision of hosting his own gathering at his Hannibal, New York cabin.
Around the same period, a group of collectors, veterans and novices alike, were searching for a new and better way to communicate online. A Yahoo group was created by True North GPAC co-founder Agostino Delcoro (adelcoro). Agostino coined the name 'True North', and invited a roster of members that included some of the top names in GPA collecting from the northeastern US and Canada. It was with this group, which included the aforementioned Steve Cullins, that the roots of the True North GPAC was formed, originally known as the True North Coleman Collectors.
The Yahoo group was a great starting point, but it wasn't too long before the group realized they wanted more. One night, while suffering from insomnia, co-founder Ty Pilarczyk (BuckeyeTy) stumbled upon just how easy it can be to start an online forum. Thus, the original TNCCF (True North Coleman Collectors Forum) took shape, and became the online home of the TNCC.
In an online contest, veteran True North member and all-around good guy Roland Chevalier coined our motto 'Friendship Through The Light."
In 2012, after several months of steady growth, the potential was realized for the True North forum to become a major force for online discussion and sharing of information pertaining to GPA. Our new forum invites collectors from North America and the world to gather. Large volumes of GPA information have been added, with more added frequently, to assist beginners and experienced hobbyists in learning more about their collections. Our ever-expanding library doesn't focus simply on the most popular brand, but encompasses all North American GPA companies. This reflects the love of our group for the lesser-known types of GPA, lovingly nicknamed 'orphans'.
To further reflect this broader scope of collecting, the name of our group has also been slightly changed to the True North Gas Pressure Appliance Collectors, or True North GPAC.
Recently, the reins of the forum were handed to True North veteran Tom Freebern.
WHO WE ARE
The True North GPAC is a group of dedicated collectors and restorers of gas pressure appliances, or GPA. Our members are based in a loose geographical area encompassing the northeastern US and Canada, though all are welcome. Members enjoy gathering periodically at the cabin of veteran member Steve Cullins, and communicate here at our online home, the True North GPACF.
WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT
The True North GPAC is about many things--fellowship with regional, national, and international pressure appliance collectors, as well as education and assistance to budding collectors and restorers. Our gatherings are the definition of fun, with anything from serious fettling, to massive lantern light-ups, to guitar picking--and anything in between! Agostino Delcoro summed it up beautifully in a recent post on Facebook:
"No politics ,no jealousy, no competition and most of all no "clicks" (cliques) and Soap operas.
We are all in it for the love of the hobby "
